The Travel Edit to Northern Areas

December 21, 2023

Pakistan’s northern regions are varied and have breathtaking mountain, plain, and river scenery. This region of the world boasts an unparalleled variety of flora and fauna, and when combined with the historical and cultural legacy of the area, it has developed into a tourist haven. The regions around Skardu in Gilgit-Baltistan are among the most well-known and exciting destinations in Northern Pakistan. It is advised that travellers include some of Yawar Talib’s most breathtaking photos on their bucket list.

The Bilamik Valley

The stunning Bilamik Valley is located in the Gilgit-Baltistan area, bordered to the west by Astor, to the north by Talo Broq, and to the east by Harpoh. Situated in the Rondu Valley, Bilamik Valley may be reached by car in two hours from Skardu City and three hours from the Rondu Valley itself. The expansive and verdant Bilamik Valley is home to numerous natural springs and waterfalls.

Kachura Lake

Kachura Lake is 70 meters (230 feet) deep and has pure water. It is fifteen degrees Celsius in the summer and completely frozen in the winter when the lower Indus River runs close. Because of its rugged terrain and lack of infrastructure, the Upper Kachura Lake lies undiscovered by most travelers while being surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The location is well-known for its wild apricots and boasts a diverse range of plants typical of the Western Himalayan subalpine conifer forests ecoregion. Upper Kachura Lake offers trekking, trout fishing, and Himalayan mountaineering as recreational opportunities.

Basho Valley

One of Pakistan’s most breathtaking tourist spots is Basho Valley Skardu. Encircled by majestic mountains, the valley provides breathtaking vistas and an abundance of outdoor pursuits to occupy guests. Everyone may find something to enjoy in Basho Valley, from hiking and climbing to rafting and kayaking. Additionally, remember to visit the nearby villages and take in the welcoming customs of the local populace. Pakistan’s Basho Valley Skardu is unquestionably a must-see location.

Manthoka Waterfall

The Manthokha Waterfall is situated in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Kharmang Valley in Skardu. This waterfall is situated approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles) from Skardu’s downtown, rising to a height of about 180 feet. The waterfall is a magical location with verdant meadows, bubbling streams, the majestic Karakorum Rocky Mountains, locally owned eateries, and much more. The restaurant’s signature dish is the trout fish that is grown nearby. Aside from the waterfall, the fish farm, which houses trout fish for tourists, is another impressive achievement.

Valley of Thalay Broq Khaplu

At 2,647 meters above sea level, the sole cropping zone of Thalay Valley is located 110 kilometers from Skardu city and 40 kilometers northwest of the district headquarters in Ghanche, Gilgit Baltistan.

Naltar Lakes

Three lakes, referred to as Naltar Lakes or Bashkiri Lakes, are located in Naltar Valley at elevations between 3,050 and 3,150 meters (10,010 and 10,330 feet). Because of the grass growing inside the lake, one of the three lakes has green water, the other two have blue water, and the third has azure water. Thick pine trees encircle the lakes. May through October is the ideal time of year to visit the lakes. Because of the excessive snowfall in the Naltar Valley throughout the winter, getting to the lake by car becomes nearly impossible.

Meadows Tormik

Tormik is a valley in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Skardu District, located in the Karakoram mountain ranges. The Stak-la is the valley’s origin, and Basha Valley is to the east and Stak Valley is to the west. Regarding land and population, the valley is the second largest.
