Punjab Governor Emphasizes Sikh-Muslim Friendship

August 19, 2023

LAHORE – On Tuesday, Governor of Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar stated that he was proud to serve the Sikh community in the province because of the close relationship he had formed with Sikhs around the world.

Speaking at a Sikh Muslim Friendship seminar held at a private school, he stated, “The government, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, is doing its best to ensure minority rights in the country.”

A country cannot develop without the participation of its minority in its economy, he argued.

Parliamentary Secretary of Punjab Mahinder Pal Singh, Sikh leaders Gopal Singh Chawla, Kalyan Singh, Darshan Singh, Dharam Singh, Ravinder Singh, and Manjeet Kaur from Canada, and others gathered for a conference on Sikh-Muslim friendship hosted by the Unique Group of Institutions (UGI).

According to Governor of Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, Sikhs and Muslims have had peaceful coexistence in the subcontinent for many decades.

Sarwar stated that the administration of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was dedicated to protecting Sikh heritage and sacred places and that the building of the Kartarpur Corridor was evidence of Sikh and Muslim friendship.

He stated that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s goal was to create a Pakistan in line with the wishes of the Father of the Nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who fought for the rights of Pakistan’s minorities.

The Governor of Punjab, speaking on the topic of Sikh-Muslim friendship, said that the administration aspired to establish a society in which people of all races, religions, and ethnic backgrounds were treated fairly under the law. To paraphrase what he said: “Pakistan is a haven to the Sikhs, and they acknowledged our hospitality everywhere in the world.”

Punjabi Sikh Sangat Chairman Gopal Singh Chawla, who spoke at the event, said that many Sikh heroes were Muslims.

He remarked, “I am proud to be a Pakistani, and the beautiful picture of Pakistan does not complete without the presence of the Sikhs,” adding that Sikhs and Muslims have coexisted peacefully before the partition of Bharat in 1947.

He spoke highly of Governor Punjab, whom he described as a benefactor to Sikhs in Pakistan and an outstanding proponent of Sikh-Muslim relations.

Legislative Bureaucracy in Punjab According to Mahinder Pal Singh, minorities in Pakistan enjoy unprecedented respect, and the Indian government just cannot wrap its head around one small example of this, the Kartarpur Corridor.

The PTI Sikh leader thanked Pakistani Muslims for the respect they had shown Sikhs and said the seminar would go a long way in fostering friendship between Sikhs and Muslims. He also praised the conference’s chairman, Unique Professor Abdul Manan Khurram.

On the occasion, Canadian Sikh girl Manjeet Kaur, commonly known as Meera G, delivered a Naat-e-Rasool-e-Maqbool Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).

Students from the Unique Group of Institutions who achieved high scores in the 2019 Lahore and Sahiwal Board Examinations each received a monetary award from the Governor of Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar.
