According to Wasi Shah, caretaker minister of state for tourism, Pakistan saw a remarkable 115% increase in foreign tourism in 2023, generating a sizeable $1.3 billion in foreign exchange revenue. The UN World Tourism Organization’s “World Tourism Barometer” reports that the nation’s recovery to pre-pandemic levels last year was an impressive 92%.
Shah voiced hope for 2024 in an exclusive interview with a private news channel, seeing it as a year that will revolutionize Pakistan’s tourism industry. He placed a strong emphasis on promoting tourism and pointed out unexplored locations in Sindh and Balochistan for weekend, adventure, religious, nature, and tribal travel, among other types of travel.

Shah emphasized Pakistan’s varied topography, which includes beaches, cliffs, woods, hills, valleys, and rivers, and he asked the incoming government to concentrate on unexplored and pristine regions. Additionally, he emphasized the nation’s involvement in international trade exhibitions such as the World Travel Mart (WTM) in order to promote tourism prospects and draw in more tourists.
Travel aficionados, foreign travel agencies, and social media influencers all took notice of Pakistan’s presence in the World Travel Mart, one of the biggest travel exhibitions in the world. Shah said he saw Pakistan’s ranking as the world’s top tourist destination as a gift for the country and emphasized ongoing initiatives to streamline processes, promote participation from the private sector, and improve the entire tourism experience.
