Sustainable Tourism Foundation Pakistan

On January 20, in the conference room of the PTDC Head Office in Islamabad, the Sustainable Tourism Foundation Pakistan (STFP), ICOMOS Pakistan, the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), and C2D collaborated to host a Round Table Conference with the theme of Pakistan’s Heritage Legislation: Issues, Constraints, and Challenges.

Dr. Dowon Kim, Dr. Gamini Wijesuriya, Dr. Vishakha Kawathekar, Dr. Rohit Jigyasu, Ms. Poonam Verma Mascarenahs, Prof. Dr. Rafique Mughal, Dr. Malik Maqsood, Prof. Fauzia Qureshi, Prof. Sajida Haider Vandal, Mr. Kamran Lashari, Mr. Salman Baig, Dr. Nadeem Omar Tarar, Mr. Aftab ur Rehman Rana, Mr. Rafay Alam, Ms. Amina Ali, and numerous other international and national experts

During the four panel discussions, Mr. Usman Sami, Mr. Asadullah Faiz, Mr. Salman Baig, Ms. Imrana Tiwana, Ms. Shahnaz Ramzi, Dr. Asma Ibrahim, Dr. Kaleemullah Lashari, Dr. Ali Jan, Prof. Sajjad Kausar, Ms. Kalsoom Saqib, Mr. Ijlal Husain, Mr. Mian Attiq, Ms. Rameesha Yazdani, Mr. Khawaja Zeeshan, and Ms. Masooma, along with several other delegates, took part in the discussions and contributed their expert opinions on the problems, limitations, and challenges encountered in the conservation of cultural heritage. In addition, they offered suggestions for how to handle these problems in light of current heritage laws and worldwide best practices.

The role of local communities in heritage conservation and the creation of economic and livelihood opportunities for them to effectively engage in heritage conservation by promoting sustainable heritage tourism was explicitly covered by Mr. Aftab ur Rehman Rana, President of STFP, in his presentation. Pakistan’s federal and provincial governments will get a comprehensive report summarizing the conference’s conclusions, which will be used to update the country’s heritage legislation.

We are happy to announce that the Pakistan Business and Professional Council (PBPC), the World Federation of Tour Guides Associations (WFTGA), the Austria-Pakistan Association (APA), the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation Pakistan (PTDC), the Discover Pakistan TV Channel, and Kohsar University Murree (KUM) have all signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to begin a capacity building program for tour guides in Pakistan.

This partnership aims to establish productive working relationships among the participating organizations to advance.

Sustainable travel and the improvement of tour guides’ abilities in Pakistan. To close the shortage of qualified and trained tour guides in Pakistan, several training programs by WFTGA criteria will be held there as part of this collaboration.

At the national, regional, and worldwide levels, STFP collaborates closely with stakeholders in the public and business sectors to promote and support the sharing of ideas, experiences, and knowledge regarding the best practices in sustainable tourism. In Pakistan, STFP has been a trailblazer in promoting ethical and sustainable travel over the past 15 years. In Pakistan, one of the specific areas of engagement has been the development of human resources for tourism. Numerous young people have participated in the tour guide training programs that STFP regularly hosts, and hundreds are currently employed as tour guides and tour operators in the tourism sector.
