Preps Ordered for Snow Season in Murree

December 22, 2023

RAWALPINDI: In preparation for Murree’s impending snow season, relevant authorities have issued directives to guarantee visitors’ comfort and safety.

Official sources claim that orders have been given to create a thorough security strategy for tourists within the following month. The objective of this plan is to ensure both the safety of guests and effective snow removal operations between December 25, 2023, and March 31, 2024.

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority, traffic police, highway department, and other pertinent organisations will work closely with the Murree administration to create an improved security and rescue plan for the upcoming snowfall season, according to an order issued by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Revenue Nabil Riaz Sindhu during a specially called meeting.

The highway department plays a crucial role in the plan by making sure that every car is ready to remove snow from the major thoroughfares when it starts to snow. Other essential elements of this plan include having a sufficient salt stockpile and enough personnel for ice-salting operations.

In addition, plans for the complete removal of snow from all routes to and from Murree are being developed, and the governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir are being coordinated in order to clear the highways that connect Rawalpindi, Azad Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Murree.

All Murree hotels, restaurants, and guest homes are expected to provide rental services, serve high-quality food, and have up-to-date amenities like heaters in an effort to improve the overall tourist experience.

To further guarantee visitor safety, a uniformed police force from the Civil Defence Department will be on duty all season long.

The traffic police are in charge of collecting information on cars that come into Murree from Azad Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Rawalpindi. When the snow falls, they will remain vigilant and send out notifications all day and night. Strong security protocols will be put in place at popular tourist destinations, such as GPO and Mall Road.

During the snowy season, all planned vacations for Murree-based rescue agencies would be postponed in order to increase security.

Officials were told to make sure there was enough food available during the snowfall season, including wheat and sugar.
