Al Quran 97:4-5

Nawafil of Shab e Qadar 

Faqeeh Abul Lays رَحْمَةُ اللهِ تَعَالٰی عَلَيْه has stated: At minimum, the number of 2 Rak’aat of Shab-e-Qadr, at maximum, there are 1000 Rak’aat. The standard amount of Rak’aat is 100, while common recitations for each Rak’at is that, after Surah Al-Fatihah, recite Surah Al-Qadr one time and Surah Al-Ikhlas three times. After finishing every two Rak’aat with Salam, recite Salat upon the Beloved Rasool صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالٰى عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم. (Page 483 of Ruh-ul-Bayan, volume 10)

First Shab E Qadr Night: The 21st Night 

With 4 Rakats (each with 2 Salams) 

  • In response to Surah Fatiha, recite Surah Ikhlas and Surah Qadr one time.
  • Recite Astaghfar 70 times after Salam.

Rewards: In light of Shab E Qadr’s Barakat, the individual will have all of their sins pardoned. Insha Allah.

Second night of Shab E Qadr: The 23rd night

4 Rakat (Along with two slams)

  • For each Rakat following Surah Fatiha, Recite Surah Ikhlas three times and Surah Qadr one time.

Rewards: In light of Shab E Qadr’s Barakat, the individual will have all of their sins pardoned.

  • 8 Rakat: (in each rakat after Surah Fatiha) with four salams Recite Surah Ikhlas one time and Surah Qadr one time.
  • Read Kalma Tamjeed seventy times after Salam. Ask Allah to grant you forgiveness.

Rewards: An individual will have all of their sins pardoned. 

Third Shab E Qadr Night: The 25th Night

4 Rakat (with 2 Salams)

  • In each Rakat after Surah Fatiha, Read Surah Ikhlas five times and Surah Qadr one time.
  • Read Kalam e Tayyaba 100 times after saying salam. Ask Allah to grant you forgiveness.

Rewards: Allah Ta’ala will grant the benefits of endless prayers in remembrance of Shab E Qadr’s Barakat. 

4 Rakat (Along with two salams): 

  • After Surah Fatiha, recite Surah Qadr three times and Surah Ikhlas three times in each Rakat.
  • Recite Astaghfar 70 times after the Salam.

Rewards: The person will have all of their sins pardoned. Insha’Allah.

2 rakats

  • in each rakat following Surah Fatiha. Read Surah Ikhlas fifteen times and Surah Qadr one time.
  • Recite Kalam E Shahadat seventy times after the Salam.

Reward: This Namaz keeps the person away from the grave’s azab. Insha Allah

The Fourth Shab E Qadr Night: The 27th Night

12 Rakat (includes 3 Salams)

  • For each Rakat following Surah Fatiha, Recite Surah Ikhlas fifteen times and Surah Qadr one time.
  • Recite Astaghfar 70 times after Salam.

Reward: The sawab of praising the prayers of prophets will be given to the individual who prays this namaz. Insha’Allah, 

2 Rakat

  • For each Rakat following Surah Fatiha, Recite Surah Ikhlas 27 times and Surah Qadr 3 times.

Reward: Allah will pardon all of his prior misdeeds. Insha Allah, 

4 Rakats (each with two salams) 

  • Following Surah Fatiha, recite Surah Ikhlas three times and Surah Takasur one time.

Rewards: Allah will ease his suffering upon his death and pardon the tormented in the Qabr (Grave). Insha’Allah

2 Rakats

  • In each rakat following Surah Fatiha, Go through Surah Ikhlas seven times. After Salam, please recite the dua below.

           Astagfirulla hil azi mullazi la illaha illal la hu wal hayul khayum wa atubuilai

The Fifth Night of Shab E Qadr: The 29th Night

4 Rakat (with 2 Salams) 

  • In each Rakat following Surah Fatiha, Recite Surah Ikhlas three times and Surah Qadr one time.
  • Read Surah Alam Nashrah seventy times after Salam.

Reward: The last breath they take will be on full Imaan (Kamil Iman). 

After Namaz Dua

Rabbana Aatina Fid Duniya Hasanataw Wafil Akhirati Hasanataw Wa Qina Azaaban Naar. 

What to Do on Shab e Qadar?

With faith and a hope of recompense, the Prophet (PBUH) encouraged us to spend Laylat al-Qadr night in prayer. According to Abu Hurayrah (R.A.), the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stated:

“Whoever spends the night of Laylat al-Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward will be forgiven his previous sins.” 

According to this hadith, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised Muslim ummah to stay up and pray throughout the night.

Important Duas and Hadith on Shab e Qadar 

According to scholars, Muslims should read following mentioned Dua’s during the final 10 nights of Ramadan in the hopes that it comes on Laylatul Qadr:

“Allahumma innaka tuhibbul afwa fa`fu annee Afuwwun (Karimun)”

Translation: “Oh Allah, You are Forgiving, You are Generous, Please Forgive Me.”- Bukhari, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).  

Another beneficial dua to recite on this night:

“Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil ‘akhirati hasanatan waqina ‘azaaban-nar”.

Translation: Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the life to come and keep us safe from the punishment of Hellfire.

We recommend following Dua to read:

“Allahumma aslih Ummata Muhammad. Allahumma farrij ‘an Ummati Muhammad. Allahumma Rham Ummata Muhammad (sallAllahu alayhi wasalam)”

Translation: O Allah! Improve (help) the state of the Ummah of Muhammad. O Allah! Grant ease to the Ummah of Muhammad. O Allah! Have mercy on the Ummah of Muhammad.

The famous hadith about the Shab e Qadr is:

According to Ibn Abbas, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared,

 “It is a calm night, neither hot nor cold, and the sun rises on it red and feeble” in reference to the Night of Decree. (Ibn Khuzaymah 20)
