Scoping cars, trains, and airplanes, upscale travel publication Conde Nast Traveler published a list of new changes to be aware of in foreign travel for 2024 on Monday.
CN Traveler highlighted 20 travel trends that will probably shape our perception of the globe in 2024, emphasizing how travel is back and seems poised to continue into the upcoming year.
The practice of traveling to observe astronomical occurrences, or “astrotourism,” is expected to grow in popularity. Although it has long been popular to see the Northern Lights, many new resorts and hotels are making it possible to see eclipses, meteor showers, and the Milky Way.
Train stations as dining destinations: Older train stations are being redesigned with carefully chosen food and drink options as part of the renovation, as travelers’ demands for unique experiences grow and delays in transit rise. In May 2023, Union Station in Toronto opened Union Market, and the recently constructed Moynihan Train Hall in New York also welcomed new restaurants. Cipriani and Hermes have long been featured in the city’s renowned Grand Central Station, which also occasionally hosts Christmas markets.
Sports tourism: A growing number of travelers are organizing vacations that revolve around viewing games, races, and other events in far-flung places, taking inspiration from the recent FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
That will soon be demonstrated by the Paris 2024 Olympics, when the city completes the finishing touches on infrastructure and monuments. According to CN Traveler, over a million tourists are anticipated to arrive in the French capital.
tourism by luxury train: This trend is also expanding as sleeper trains, particularly in Europe, have been made possible by the tourism industry’s increased desire for sustainability. In addition to the redesigned Orient Express, luxury train itinerary launcher Railbookers is planning to start.
Starting at $113,599 per person, the eighty-day “Around the World” luxury train journey will visit thirteen nations and four continents.
AI-enabled travel: With a plethora of new AI-powered features and products designed to assist travelers on the ground, this is also expected to redefine traveler experiences. In 2024, Samsung intends to introduce live translation on its Galaxy devices, along with customized AI algorithms that predict a rise in activity.
The magazine also unveiled The Gold List 2024, the Holy Grail of travel rankings, earlier this month. This list features excellent hotels, resorts, and cruises.
The Mandarin Oriental in Tokyo, the Ahilya Fort Heritage Hotel Maheshwar, India, the Bab al Shams resort in Dubai, and Amanpuri in Phuket, Thailand are a few of the Asian locations that made the cut.
Among those that made the European cut were Badrutt’s Palace in Switzerland, Claridges in London, and Hotel du Cap Eden Roc in Antibes, France.
Paris and Dubai topped the list of the Top 100 City Destinations Index 2023, which was released earlier this month by Euromonitor International.
More than fifty-five variables from six major pillars—economic and business performance, tourist performance, infrastructure, tourism policy and attractiveness, health and safety, and sustainability—were used by the market research platform to analyze cities.
For the second consecutive year, Paris was voted the greatest city in the world. Because of its “exceptional performance across the tourism policy and attractiveness,” the “City of Light” emerged victorious. Due to an 18% increase in foreign arrivals to 16.8 million in 2023, Dubai ranked second.
Asian cities were particularly well-represented, with five of them ranking in the top 20, including Singapore, Seoul, Osaka, and Hong Kong.
The top 10 cities in 2023:
- Tokyo, Japan
- Paris, France
- Rome, Italy
- New York, United States of America
- Barcelona, Spain
- Dubai, United Arab Emirates
- Amsterdam, the Netherlands
- Berlin, Germany
- London, United Kingdom
- Madrid, Spain
