Bangkok – The Thai government is prepared to relax visa requirements for various nations to increase tourism and foster economic growth and prosperity.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s top assistant, Prommin Lertsuridej, announced on Thursday that the authorities were looking into ways to let visitors of several European nationalities stay for up to ninety days.
He added in the interview that over 3,000 activities, including marathons, music performances, and other cultural celebrations, will be held through the end of the year to attract travelers.
The premier’s secretary-general, Prommin, stated, “We will design more attractions and promotions to incentivize tourists to stay longer.”
According to Bloomberg, Thai Prime Minister Srettha has recognized tourism as a “quick win” to boost the nation’s economic growth. As a result, his administration has taken action, waiving visa requirements for travelers from Russia, China, Kazakhstan, India, and Taiwan and directing airlines to expand their routes while streamlining airport operations to reduce visitor wait times.
Additionally, the country’s authorities are considering allowing nightclubs and entertainment facilities to stay open until four in the morning in select parts of Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Chonburi.
While social distancing rules have been abandoned in several countries, including Thailand, the nation has trouble getting traveler spending back to pre-Covid levels.
To attract more tourists, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has established a target to increase international tourism earnings and collect at least two trillion baht by 2024. The most recent relaxation of visa requirements seems part of this strategy.
