TAXILA: The senior deputy foreign minister of Japan, Kanasugi Kenji, has offered his nation’s technical support in preserving, restoring, and safeguarding historic Buddhist sites.
He presented the invitation on Saturday while visiting the Taxila Museum and other historic Buddhist sites in the city.
He said that Pakistan and Japan have long-standing cultural ties because Buddhism originated in Pakistan and flourished in Japan. According to him, the well-known
Gandhara art form actually started in Pakistan before moving to Japan, where local artists have embraced it and it has helped to forge ties between the two nations.
The Japanese government, particularly the Buddhist one, successfully executed a number of projects in the realm of culture through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and other programmes.
Mr. Kenji praised Taxila’s ancient Gandhara civilisation’s enormous cultural legacy, which draws tourists. He said, “The Japanese government appreciates the value of cultural heritage and places a high priority on its preservation and continues to support Pakistan in this field.
According to Kanasugi Kenji, the Japanese government has donated equipment worth millions of rupees for archaeological study, upkeep, and improvements to the facilities required to conserve Pakistan’s cultural legacy.
