Harmony Beyond Borders: Kartarpur Sahib’s Travel Guide

August 18, 2023

There is a haven of tranquility close to the India–Pakistan border that serves to practically erase the distinctions between the two countries. Located in Pakistan’s Punjab Province, this site is revered as the final dwelling of Guru Nanak Dev and is known as Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur.

Kartarpur Sahib is a holy site frequented by people from both India and Pakistan due to its proximity to the international boundary. Located in Pakistan’s Punjab Province, Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur is revered as the final dwelling of Sikhism’s founder, Guru Nanak Dev. Legend has it that Guru Nanak established Kartarpur and its communal kitchen (langer) in the year 1515. Before his death on September 22, 1539, he had been a resident of the town for eighteen years. Because of this, the Kartarpur Gurudwara is revered greatly by Sikhs. Approximately 5 kilometers separate it from the Pakistani and Indian frontiers.

Who can use the Kartarpur Corridor?

Gurudwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan and Gurudwara Dera Baba Nanak in India are connected by a visa-free religious corridor known as the Kartarpur Corridor. The distance between this border and the one between India and Pakistan is approximately 4.7 kilometers. Indian citizens and those with an OCI are the only ones allowed to enter Kartarpur. The entrance is closed to foreigners. The Gurudwara and Corridor are open to Indians of ALL faiths. Not only Sikhs are affected. We respect people of all faiths. Pakistanis don’t need to use the Corridor to get to Kartarpur Sahib.
