The recent deluge of rain that has hit the city of Lahore caused a significant piece of the Gurdwara Rori Sahib, which is located in Jahman village, to collapse.
The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) has issued a call on the governments and Sikh organizations on both sides of the border to take action to protect the ruins of the shrine.
The gurdwara is only 1.5 kilometers away from the Indo-Pakistani border, according to the convener of INTACH in Punjab, retired Brigadier General Balwinder Singh. “Due to the indifference of the relevant authorities, the shrine was already in a precarious condition. There was never any consideration given to the idea of maintaining the monument by either the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee or the Pakistani authorities. A significant portion of the gurdwara fell on Sunday as a direct result of the recent rainfall. “Water from a nearby pond that had overflowed its banks was leaking into the building,” he explained.
