CHITRAL/SWAT: Seminars and awareness walks were held in Chitral city and Booni, where the participants highlighted the importance of making tourism more sustainable and environment friendly as per the theme of the day ‘Tourism and Green Investment’.
An awareness walk was organized in Chitral city, beginning from the Chew Bridge and ending at the Parade Ground. The attendees, who included members from civil society organizations, carried placards with statements emphasizing the importance of tourism for development and poverty alleviation.
The speakers at the Chitral Association of Tourism workshop in Booni emphasized the fantastic potential of tourism in Chitral, which has been endowed with valleys of magnificent beauty, biodiversity, glaciers, more than 100 mountain peaks, and the world’s famed Kalash culture.
They regretted, however, that the deteriorating road infrastructure restricted tourism development. They also stated that a lot of security checkpoints were the biggest impediment to luring tourists to the area.
In the meantime, the Upper Swat Development Authority and the district administration organized a walk to raise awareness in Malam Jabba.
The event was attended by a number of notables, including Deputy Commissioner Dr Qasim Ali Khan, Extra Deputy Commissioner Suhail Khan, Regional Sports Officer Shakeel Ahmed, visitors, and kids.
The event, held under the banner of Green Investment as championed by the World Tourism Organisation this year, emphasised the significance of preserving the pristine beauty of Swat’s tourist destinations and minimising their vulnerability to natural disasters.
